JOB DESCRIPTION
The position is responsible for developing and assuring the integrity of the highest quality scientific and clinical content on behalf of our clients. Additionally, the position is responsible for providing medical expertise and insights in oncology/hematology and participating in New Business Development initiatives to support the growth of our company. Currently, the position does not have direct reports. Major responsibilities include:
Independently developing/producing scientific and clinical content for projects, across oncology/hematology therapeutic areas and across product and disease states
Assuring that the scientific and clinical content developed is accurate, current, appropriately referenced, and conforms to Client and/or Faculty/Author requests
Critically review (and revise as needed) scientific and clinical content that other medical team members and/or external medical writers have produced
Interface with Client Services and Business Development team members on content-related issues/opportunities, as well as our own issues and/or opportunities
Participate in the generation of New Business Development leads, as well as participate in the development of and providing scientific and clinical strategic recommendations and content for New Business proposals, slide presentations, and face-to-face “pitches”
Develop credible and strong relationships with Clients, Faculty, and Authors; participate in Client meetings, providing ideas and strategic direction for scientific and clinical content development
Oversee the work of freelance medical writers, when necessary, in order to deliver high quality scientific content one time and within budget
The position must have the ability to provide scientific and clinical oncology/hematology consultation to Clients with respect to planning, development and delivery of medical education and publications plans and tactics. While it is expected that the position has experience in applying his/her knowledge of health sciences in the development and management of Client and Faculty/Author relationships, the position must also effectively engage and collaborate with our Medical team members in terms of problem-solving and idea-generation. Given the environment in which we operate as a business, the position must have a thorough understanding of the OIG, AMA, PhRMA, and Good Publication Practice guidelines and must have experience in the practical application of this understanding. Additionally, the Position will learn and adhere to our internal SOPs, as well as those of the clients with whom he/she will interact. It is expected that the position will lead his/her internal team efforts, relative to scientific and clinical content development, to ensure that our company operates in full compliance with these guidelines, and SOPs.
Education & Qualifications:
PhD, MD, or PharmD
At least 5-7 years of active work experience in medical education, pharmaceutical and/or allied health industry
At least 2-3 years of work experience as a Medical Director/Medical Writer within the medical education industry
Key competencies:
Proven track record of developing excellent oncology/hematology scientific and clinical content on behalf of Clients, including publications in peer-reviewed journals (primary manuscripts, review manuscripts, abstracts, posters), and clinical/ scientific programs (agenda, slide presentations, monographs, case studies, etc.)
Ability to conduct literature searches, Web searches, and seek necessary scientific and clinical information in order to competently develop content for projects; strong computer literacy skills
Excellent teamwork skills and experience
Strong abilities to analyze data, including oncology/hematology scientific and clinical data, disease specific information, competitive product information, and market trends
Strong problem-solving and conflict management skills
