Responding to Andrew Lansley, Health Secretary launching the consultation into the Cancer Drugs Fund, which will come into effect in April 2011, Mike Hobday, Head of Policy at Macmillan Cancer Support, said:

‘This is fantastic news for people with rarer cancers. The £200 million cancer drugs fund means that more people will have access to the clinically effective drugs that their doctors believe will improve their quality and length of life. We are pleased that the Government is addressing this issue, which is a major concern for people affected by cancer.’
