Ed Randall’s Fans For The Cure charity is launching its first ever BLUETEMBER program with special events at cities around the country to coincide with National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
BLUETEMBER events included a free PSA screening during the ORIOLES-YANKEES game at Yankee Stadium on September 7th. Future events include a Prostate Cancer Awareness Night at the Newark (NJ) Bears on September 10th, and two events in Chicago – the Sea Blue Walk for Prostate Cancer on September 19th and Rock Out 4 Cancer concert on September 20th. A gala dinner at the Friars Club will be held in New York on September 27th with New York Governor David A. Patterson in attendance.
“Our goal is to have a conversation with the American people through our BLUETEMBER program,” Ed Randall commented, “about this potentially deadly disease which we hope leads to action; so that no man will die needlessly due to a lack of information.”
Corporate prostate cancer screenings for employees of UBS and MSNBC are scheduled, as well as special national network television appearances on MSNBC’S “Morning Joe” AND CNN’S “Larry King Live” by Ed Randall.
BLUETEMBER will include the launch of a new website for the charity, see here. The website will serve as a repository of information for men and their families seeking guidance on prostate cancer. Fans For The Cure has also established a Medical Advisory Board with prostate cancer experts providing up to date research and counseling to patients and survivors.
One in six American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer and nearly 250,000 will be diagnosed within the next year. With early detection it is almost 97 percent curable.
