Description
General Purpose: Provide support for clinical research endeavors within the department. Work under the direction of Principal Investigators in the Department of Therapeutic Radiology.
Position Description:
• Provide assistance/support for protocol preparation, as related to university and Cancer Center Regulatory Committee approval. Participate fully in coordinating clinical trials from concept to completion.
• Manage timelines for data collection, deadlines, protocol renewal and reporting dates.
• Interact with investigators on a regular basis regarding protocol details, subject evaluation, regulatory renewal timelines and data collection.
• Provide support to clinical investigators regarding subject eligibility, scheduling of testing and collection of eligibility information.
• Collect protocol toxicity information and on-protocol/follow up data. Monitor patients for safety and protocol compliance. Document all protocol related and mandated events. Report all toxicity related events and deviations to the Principal Investigator immediately and grade toxicity as per the protocol guidelines or as per NCI CTC as required.
• Schedule clinical evaluation as per protocol requirements.
• Maintain regular interaction with data management staff of the Yale Cancer Center to ensure appropriate collection and documentation of all protocol related data as per required guidelines. Assure cooperative group and internal reporting as per mandated schedules. Serve as the liaison between the Principal Investigators, other departments/investigators, sponsoring agencies and the NCI, as needed.
• Prepare protocol educational in-service to staff as per the needs of the research team as identified by the director for clinical research.
• Participate in RTOG, other cooperative groups and internal audits. Prepare and coordinate data collection for presentation, analysis and publication. Prepare documents for audits and review by sponsors, regulatory agencies and internal and external review boards and committees.
• Participate in regular meetings with director of clinical research and investigators.
• Obtain and prepare/package blood and other human tissue/samples for laboratory evaluation as called for by protocol.
• Report directly to the clinical director of the Department of Therapeutic Radiology.
• Be extremely responsive and communicate rapidly and efficiently with investigators in person and via communication device-telephone/email.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing and four years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Preferred: Previous experience in Oncology research nursing.
• Strong interpersonal skills, well organized and interested in team organization.
• Familiarity with scheduling systems such as IDX, word processing, electronic spreadsheets, email and electronic medical records.
• Working knowledge of data collection methods and computerized data collection tools and applications.
